Father Charles St. James is a graduate of Mid-America Christian University. He is also a native of Las Vegas, NV, and is married to his wife Edith.
He spent 13 ½ years in the United States Army, deployed to Afghanistan three times, and spent just under three years there. While in the Army he was stationed in Fort Drum, Fort Irwin, Camp Stanley Korea, and Fort Stewart. He has completed numerous military leadership development programs, served as a Platoon Sergeant in Fort Irwin and Camp Stanley in Korea, and was a hand-to-hand combat instructor in Fort Drum.
Father Charles is a fitness enthusiast and has earned certifications from the International Sport Sciences Association (I.S.S.A) in fitness, fitness therapy, and nutrition. Through the years, he has helped numerous individuals reach their fitness goals, from weight loss to strength gains, and overall athletic performance.
Father Charles was a Protestant Pastor for about 5 years, but began to search for the early church. He considered Roman Catholicism, but found several teachings to be incosistent with the Ancient Christian Church. He continued studying church history, and he eventually found the Eastern Orthodox Church. As he continued to learn about orthodoxy, he found The Old Catholic Church of North America (TOCCNA); a providence that adheres to the orthodox theology of the early undivided church, and to the liturgical traditions of the West. In 2014, while stationed in Korea, he emailed Metropolitan Michael Nesmith and they began a dialog. But there were no Old Catholic Churches in Korea.
In 2016, Father Charles returned to Las Vegas. In 2017, he once again looked up The Old Catholic Church of North America and found a parish in Las Vegas. He became a member of St. Barnabas in the summer of 2017 and completed seminary in 2021. He was ordained to the diaconate on April 23rd, 2022, and was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on May 19th, 2024 (Pentecost Sunday).
